Install Raspberry Pi PIXEL Desktop/Theme on Debian

What is PIXEL?

PIXEL is the default desktop environment and theme used by Raspberry Pi OS. It officially stands for "Pi Improved Xwindows Environment, Lightweight" and is based on LXDE. -https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/introducing-pixel/
  1. Log into the Debian device
  2. Run the following commands in a terminal
    # add the raspberry pi os gpg key
    wget -O - http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/raspberrypi.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
    # add the raspberry pi os apt repository
    echo deb http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ $(lsb_release -cs) main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspios.list
    # update repositories
    sudo apt update
    # install pixel
    sudo apt install raspberrypi-ui-mods -y
  3. When prompted, press Enter to configure the display manager
  4. Arrow down to select lightdm and press Enter
  5. After the installation completes, reboot the system
  6. Upon boot, the familiar Raspberry Pi login screen should be display
  7. Login
  8. Welcome to the PIXEL desktop experience
